Thank you to everyone who participated in the year-end survey this past December! We figured maybe some of our readers would be curious about who some of our other readers are, and lots of people like to geek out over stats (myself included), so here are the results to a few of the questions we asked.
Who You Are:
89% of survey respondents were male.
Age-wise, 58% of those who completed the survey are between the ages of 45 and 64. 19% are aged 35 to 44, and over 13% are 65 or older. 75% have at least a college degree.
74% are married, but 60% have no children.
Where You Live:
About 30% of survey -takers live in a small city or medium-sized town, and another 30% live in the suburbs of a major city. 21% live in a neighborhood of a major city.
Bikes, Bikes, Bikes:
95% of survey respondents rated their skill and/or experience level as either intermediate or advanced.
Almost 80% of survey participants enjoy recreational road riding. 61% enjoy riding on rail trails and bike paths. 57% commute back and forth to work or school, and 52% ride for utility purposes, like doing errands. 40% like to tour, 44% take part in organized group rides, and 43% enjoy gravel grinding and dirt road touring. 45% also like to mountain bike.
40% of the people who responded to our survey have more than 6 bikes in their household, and about 70% have more than 3. We’re all about the bikes!
When purchasing bikes and other cycling-related goods, 94% of our readers head on over to their local bike shop, and many of them shop online as well.
Our survey respondents don’t only bike. 74% enjoy hiking or backpacking, 42% like to car camp, 38% enjoy photography, and 32% do paddle sports. Many also enjoy skiing or snowboarding, running, fishing, and yoga.
What about you? Are you mostly part of the majority in the cycling world, or are you a little different?
