Since September, the Rails-to-Trails Concervancy has been gathering signatures from Americans to asking the American Automobile Association to support federal programs that create walking and cycling infastructure.
Now they have gathered more than 50,000 signatures and will deliver them today at the doorstep of AAA in Florida.
According to RTC the AAA recently advocated for "the elimination of existing federal programs that help build bicycle and pedestrian trails and sidewalks from the trust fund that finances transportation. These funds have helped create more than 19,000 miles of trails, walking and bicycling facilities across the country."
The debate began in August when the leader of the Mid-Atlantic chapter of AAA argued that valuable tax dollars should be going to the highway system, and instead were being spent on non-motorized infasturcture.
The RTC went to vist, and found a very nice trail right outside the AAA’s office, paid for by those very dollars.
