National nonprofit PeopleForBikes wants to find 10 cities where bike traffic can be doubled or tripled (and cycling accidents reduced) by 2020, and its wants to help that along with targeted grants and three years of professional assistance.
The Big Jump seeks to connect protected bike lanes with quiet neighborhood streets, separated pathways, and safe crossings to build complete networks that make biking safe, comfortable, and attractive for more people. Improving infrastructure is the top priority, but The Big Jump also seeks to change cultures and habits to make cycling a more ordinary and accepted activity.
PeopleForBikes will use a competitive application process to select cities and neighborhoods. Applications are being accepted now through October 28, 2016. Selected cities will be announced in January 2017 and the program will run through 2019. The short video below offers an overview of the project.
