New website helps you rent a bike from a stranger

Think of it as AirBNB, but for bikes. A new website, Spinlister, lets you search and rent a bike for an hour, day, or longer by putting you in touch with someone with a bike to spare. Need some extra cash? You can rent your bike out the same way.

Spinlister collects the payments via PayPal and sends the bike owners a check every two weeks for what they’re owed. No money changes hands. Naturally theft is a concern, but Spinlister has renters’ credit cards on file, and will work with owners to ensure they are reimbursed if the worst happens.

Founded in New York, most of the bikes available at this point are there, but expect more near you as the site grows.

What do you think? Would you rent your precious bike out to a complete stranger?
