Follow the money from the 2012 Transportation Bill

In July 2012 President Obama signed into law the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century bill, also known as MAP-21, also known as "the transportation bill". It funds surface transportation projects across the country to a tune of $105 billion for 2013 and 2014.

Unfortunately, despite the hard work of the cycling advocacy community, the bill slashed funding for bicycle and pedestrian causes and infrastructure. How the remainder of the funds is allocated is left up to state and local governments.

Advocacy Advance, along with its partner organizations in the America Bikes Coalition, is committed to ensuring that states and local governments use every opportunity in the new law to increase the safety and convenience of biking and walking.

The group has put together this great flowchart of how the process works and the money gets funneled through the system to the end user. To see the full-size PDF, click here.
