Delivered: Cured backcountry picnic

If you enjoy riding or hiking well away from civilization, consider treating yourself and a pal to a ‘backcountry picnic’ from Boulder, Colorado-based Cured, run by outdoor enthusiasts Will and Coral Frischkorn.

“These are meals to look forward to,” said Will, a former pro cyclist who raced in the Tour de France. “They are lightweight, flavor-packed, healthy and filling. Perfect for an afternoon of adventure.”

The backcountry picnic comes with Napoli applewood-smoked and Saucisson D’Arles salami, and Gruyere Swiss and Red Leicester U.K. cheeses hand-selected by the Frischkorns to withstand extreme temperatures and conditions, without turning packs into aromatic funk fests.

Our picnic arrived in a tidy cardboard box, with each item wrapped neatly together inside a temperature-controlling ‘blanket’. Sadly, it also arrived in time for one of the heaviest rain storms in northern California’s history, so the picnic was enjoyed in our dining room.

“We always head into the mountains with great meats and cheeses, and we want to show other skiers, runners, and climbers that the eating portion of the adventure can be pure pleasure,” said Coral. “Half of the fun of heading out into the mountains, and powering through all of that work, is rewarding yourself with great food.”

Each backcountry picnic comes with Nita Crisp bread crackers, two salamis, two chunks of cheese, two apples, two house-baked treats and a tub of Marcona almonds for $55. Customers can pick up the Backcountry Picnic at the store in Boulder, and they also can be ordered from Other picnic options are available too.
