In 2009, during Armstrong’s comeback to pro cycling and the Tour de Frame, filmmaker Alex Gibney was hired to record the story. But what he later learned, the story was more fiction than fact, as Armstrong’s confessions of cheating unveiled a web of lies and deceptions.
Gibney felt like Armstrong owed him and explanation for lying to his face (along with countless others) so he re-started his film project, and sits down with Armstrong himself to dissect one of the most extraordinary narratives in the history of sports.
From the brief trailer, seen here, it is almost too weird to believe—Armstrong talking about how “we haven’t heard the whole story”. It reminds me of O.J. Simpson and his disturbing “If I Did It” book. Is Armstrong telling the truth this time around? Does it matter?
