Avid unveils lighter, high-end BB7 disc road brakes

I would have called them BB9, but Avid has announced a new BB7 Road SL cable-actuated disc calipers for road, touring, or cyclocross bikes. They shave 25 precious grams off the super-popular BB7 stoppers, Ti hardware, and a lighter organic pad material. Plus the gray annondizing finish matches many of sister-company SRAM’s road products. It will be available with 140mm or 160mm rotors, for $170 a set, shipping in November.

To go along with the new brakes is a new cable set, the SlickWire XL with a reinforced, compressionless housing. It’s 30 percent lighter than a traditional, wound housing.
