I came across this video today, of an amazing underground parking structure for bicycles in Tokyo, Japan. The bike is wheeled into one of these kiosks, where the system pinches the front tire and then whisks it away to an underground parking structure that safely stores it until you return.
According to Japanese culture blogger Danny Choo, the system costs users about $20 a month and can be used unlimited times. Each well can hold 200 bicycles. While the system is undoubtably expensive, as the manager notes in the video, it frees up the surface area for things that need to be more accessible.Tweet Print
