On Monday it was announced that Chris Tutton, owner of Canadian bicycle component company Race Face, agreed to purchase Easton Cycling from its parent company BRG Sports (owners of Bell, Giro, Blackburn and Riddell, and formerly known as Easton-Bell Sports). The deal is expected to be closed for an undisclosed sum by mid June.
Tutton, worked for Race Face from 1994 to 2008 and led Easton-Bell’s OEM division from 2008. He then brought Race Face out of near insolvency in 2011. He plans to keep Easton Cycling’s R&D lab in northern California, and house all sales and marketing staff in its Vancouver, British Columbia, headquarters.
“The team at Race Face is very excited to welcome Easton to the RF family,” Tutton said in a statement. “The core competencies of both companies will help to strengthen and expand both business units. There are also undeniable synergies in sales and distribution to be realized worldwide as well as wins with offshore vendor production networks currently in place.”Tweet Print

If you’re not familiar, the partnership between Moots and the RCR goes way back. The 2014 Raleigh Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships will be held at Eva Bandman Park in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday, October 25, 2014.
This year’s event will continue the great tradition of prior Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships, with a full weekend of qualifiers, racing and celebration – all carefully choreographed for an outstanding participant experience and only 45 minutes of pain.Tweet Print
Our hometown, Pittsburgh, has been making big strides in the past few years in promoting cycling and making the streets safer. At the forefront of that movement is Bike Pittsburgh, an award-winning advocacy group.
In August 2013, Bike Pittsburgh installed four billboards and 15 bus shelters with its Drive With Care campaign. Featuring real cyclists and real people, it reminded drivers that people on bikes aren’t a nascence in the road, they are nurses, students, daughters, sons and star NFL players. Yes, one billboard features Antonio Brown of the Pittsburgh Steelers. This is a football town after all.
Now Bike Pittsburgh is raising funds to expand the program to other neighborhoods, create a web campaign where riders can share their stories, and spread the word to drivers that all road users are people, not impediments.
The Indiegogo campaign is raising $50,000 to fund the following:
- $10,000 – 15 bus shelters for two month
- $14,000 – 45 bus cards (aka “Queens”) on the sides of buses divided between four routes, for two months
- $16,000 – Strategically placed billboards around Pittsburgh for two months
- $10,000 – Web development and app creation for people to take their own pictures and make Drive With Care profiles
More than just making streets safer, your donation will earn you a little something too.
Various donation levels will earn you prizes, including T-shirts, cycling caps, water bottles, a spot on one of the billboards or my favorite: Rick Sebak will record the message on your voicemail or answering machine. Pittsburghers are going to especially excited about this one.
